The video for Darren Hayes' upcoming new single "Casey" has been out for a while now, though the single won't be available until March 3. When I first got a sneak peak of it during production, I was really worried. It looked like a hopelessly cheesy video involving awful computer graphics.
Finished and in context, though? It's absolutely stunning.
This is one of my favorite songs and it never fails to give me this sort of melancholy thrill. It perfectly captures what it's like to be a teenager in a small town, dreaming of the world beyond, wishing you could fit in, and being terrified of being left behind. The retro-video game imagery used in the video fits this really well.
